The School Year 2017-2018, with the theme “Learning Together: Sustaining a Caring Culture”, culminated with the Moving Up and Graduation Ceremonies last March 24, 2018 held at Meeting Room 5 of the Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City. It followed the Baccalaureate Mass held at Holy Family Parish Church in Makati.

The ceremony started off with the march of the graduates at 3:30 PM followed closely by the faculty, administrators, and guest of honor. The guests were then formally welcomed by Loriz Angelie D. Jaurigue of the Grade 6 class. Loriz urged the graduates to recall the good and bad moments of their academic lives that led to the culminating ceremonies of the day.

After the opening remarks, Ms. Jovita Maria Bea J. Ramos, Faculty member of the SPD, introduced the guest of honor Dr. Maricelle Licuanan – Resurreccion, member of SMWS High School Class of 1995. Dr. Licuanan – Resurreccion is the founder of the Philippine Pet Birth Control Center Foundation.

Dr. Licuanan – Resureccion recalled entering the campus of SMWS as a troubled student being given a second chance. She reminded the graduates that her experiences were tough but probably not so different from the graduating students who were listening. She credited her second chance in SMWS to have led her into pursuing her path to success as a veterinary surgeon and public personality. As a veterinary surgeon, her words inspired the audience to care for not just the least fortunate: pets and animals in her field but also our fellow human beings. Dr. Licuanan – Resureccion commended the caring community of SMWS for doing the same in producing everyday geniuses. The audience gave her a standing ovation as she was presented with a plaque of appreciation by the President and other administrators of the school.

After the inspirational message, the special awards were distributed by the principals and administrators of the different departments. Following this was the presentation and distribution of the graduates and diplomas by Mrs. Olivia I. Monroy, Mr. Nelson E. Salanguste, and Mr. Krephel A. Navales administrators of the Preschool/Grade School, High School, and Senior High School Departments respectively. They were conferred by the President, Mrs. Aurelia Maria Soriano Hernandez.

Yukilyn C. Matano gave the Address of Gratitude on behalf of the Grade 10 class. Her vivid detailing of ten things she is grateful for grabbed the attention of the audience. Her sincere and witty delivery evoked applause and even tears from the crowd.

Ma. Ianna Kristine C. Soriano led the graduates in their Pledge of Loyalty. Then, each class took the stage to perform their graduation songs: “I’ll Remember” by the Grade 6, “Farewell” an original composition by the Grade 10, and “History” by the Grade 12.

The Closing Remarks were given by Pavan M. Sharma of the Grade 12 class, garnering heartfelt applause and genuine laughter from the audience especially the line “Enroll now!” which is an allusion to the school’s first infomercial. Mr. Sharma’s speech closed the ceremony on a high note along with the singing of the Alma Mater Song by the Graduates and faculty. The Masters of Ceremony, Ms. Kristine Leigh P. Zablan and Mr. John Russel C. Orola signaled the recessional of the administrators and guest of honor.
